PTL, the National Polymer Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE), has been successful in securing contracts in eight of the nine LSC regions in England for the delivery of the Train to Gain programme. Train to Gain was launched during the autumn of 2006 as a major component of the skills strategy in England and provides free technical training together with NVQ assessment for those who do not already possess a level two qualification. Raymond Clarke, Chief Executive of PTL said “We are delighted to be able to offer Train to Gain in all English regions with the exception of London, for which we hope to gain a contract at a later date. The ability of PTL to deliver Train to Gain on such a broad geographical basis is unique in the polymer industry, and will ensure wide access to high quality, industry specific training and assessment. We expect to enrol some 700 candidates during 2007, and will expand the offering to include level 3 awards during this year”. As part of the Train to Gain programme, PTL is able to offer free technical training at Telford combined with NVQ assessment undertaken at PTL during the course and in company. “By combining the widely regarded PTL level 2 technical training programmes, the NVQ assessment system and public funding, we believe that we have created a highly attractive package for the industry at a time when investment in education is critical if we are to remain internationally competitive” said Clarke.
