The service is available for a range of manufacturing processes, including:

Injection Moulding, which also has optional modules of:
  • Gas Injection
  • Sequential Moulding
  • Hot Runner Moulds
  • Multi-shot Moulding
  • Fast Cycling (in Dev.)
Blow Moulding
Pipe & Profile Extrusion
Sheet Extrusion
Blown Film Extrusion

Objectives of the Evaluation:

The evaluation process is designed to identify three positive outcomes:

An individual’s current knowledge of key subject areas, related to the process.

Interpretation of results and recommendations for training and development, which will enable the individual to progress towards an industry agreed standard of operational performance.

Recommendations for necessary additional training and development, so that the Company can enable individuals to attain National Vocational Qualifications and/or the PTL Approved Technician Award/Polymer Processing Certificates.

Benefits to the Employer:
The ETN:
Identifies an employee’s current knowledge of key subject areas, directly or indirectly related to a specific processing operation.

Compares the individual’s knowledge to a known standard, set by the Industry.

Makes recommendations on specific training and development programmes necessary to improve the individual’s knowledge and subsequent performance.

Targets the company’s training investment to specific areas of highest need.

Provides evidence to the company’s customers and quality auditors, that planned systematic training of personnel is being carried out effectively.

The Evaluation process:

The evaluation process uses, as its basis, the standards agreed by Industry as being appropriate across a range of topic areas and that an individual should possess for them to perform at an optimum level.

The separate topic areas assessed include:

  • Plastics Materials
  • Setting-Up and Processing
  • Machine Design and Construction
  • Mould/Die Design and Operation
  • Safety

How is the Evaluation completed:

A multiple-choice questionnaire is sent out to the Company Training Assessment Coordinator for each employee requiring evaluation.

The company organises and administers completion of the questionnaire, under controlled examination conditions, at a convenient time.

Questionnaires are returned to PTL for analysis and training recommendations to be made.

What does the Company receive:

A Management Report is generated for each candidate, which show results for all specific topic areas and the candidates overall assessment score, against national standards.

How long does it take:

Results and reports will be returned to the company within ten working days from receipt of the completed questionnaire.

How much does it cost:

The standard ETN service costs £90 + VAT for each individual employee evaluation.

Each additional injection moulding module is charged at £10 + VAT per candidate.

Example Management Reports can be provided for evaluation, if required.

"I have recently attended the Product Design with Plastics course at PTL, which was of an exceptional standard. As a Industrial Designer I felt the course was highly intensive, covering a broad topic area including polymer selection, design for manufacture and mould design. The training staff were both friendly and knowledgeable" Gethin Roberts - The National Centre for Product Design & Development Research (PDR)
