Injection Moulding Technology Part 3 Print E-mail

Pre-requisites

Candidates must be able to demonstrate existing knowledge levels through either passing the IMT2 end of course assessment or having achieved an NVQ Level 2 or having completed our pre-course questionnaire and achieved a score of 70% or above.

Aim of the course

To provide delegates with an in-depth knowledge of the Injection Moulding process in order to competently and safely set up a range of moulding machines to achieve a specified product quality and output rate.

Who should attend:

Specifically designed to address the needs of people requiring high-level skills in configuring and optimising the injection moulding process. In particular:
Setters
Process Engineers
Technicians and Multi-Skilled Engineers

Objectives of the course

On completion of the course the delegates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of safety requirements for injection moulding and use safe working practices
  • Describe the construction of an injection moulding machine, the function of component parts and process parameters
  • Set up clamping units on a range of injection moulding machines
  • Demonstrate an understanding of mould tool design, quality systems and machine control methods
  • Carry out initial set-up of the injection unit using a systematic procedure
  • Start-up and shut-down an injection moulding machine safely and efficiently
  • Recognise common product faults
  • Demonstrate an understanding of plastics material technology
  • Recognise a range of product faults, identify possible causes and select appropriate remedies
  • Carry out a complete set-up from zero
  • Undertake machine condition setting in a logical and systematic manner
  • Complete a full mould trial applying logical and systematic procedures
  • Maximise product quality and output rates

Individual candidate knowledge levels are assessed at the end of the training programme and a management report is provided to help identify further training requirements or career progression possibilities. This is a PTL assessment of knowledge for the injection moulding process but candidates can then progress towards achievement of their City & Guilds award by successfully completing further knowledge and practical assessments.

Duration:

5 days. Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9.00am-5.00pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9.00am-8.30pm

Qualification:

Polymer Processing Certificate Part 3
Material covered has been aligned to the content of an NVQ at Level 3 and can be used as underpinning knowledge towards achieving the award, if so desired.

"I have recently attended the Product Design with Plastics course at PTL, which was of an exceptional standard. As a Industrial Designer I felt the course was highly intensive, covering a broad topic area including polymer selection, design for manufacture and mould design. The training staff were both friendly and knowledgeable" Gethin Roberts - The National Centre for Product Design & Development Research (PDR)
