Course content:

The following topics are covered in this course:

  • Checking and replacing heaters and thermocouples
  • Checking and replacing core and safety switches on moulds
  • Cleaning and checking vents
  • Use of measuring equipment to check for wear and damage
  • Routine maintenance procedures and lubrication
  • Maintenance and repairs to mould cooling circuits
  • Nozzle and sprue bush seating
  • Mould polishing
  • Replacement of worn and damaged ejector pins
  • Maintenance and care of textured surfaces
  • Sizing and manufacture of ejector bars
  • Stripping and cleaning moulds and changing inserts
  • Removal of broken moulded parts from the mould (tricks of the trade)

A multi-skilled approach to maintenance and breakdown tasks is increasingly seen
as advantageous to companies where continuity of production and maximised profits are vital. This programme of workshop practicals provides the knowledge
and skills needed to carry out mould maintenance and breakdown duties, to address a range of commonly experienced problems.

Qualification:

Certificate of Competence to carry out a clearly defined portfolio of electrical tasks.
Underpinning knowledge for N/SVQ 2/3.
