Blow Moulding Technology Part 3 Print E-mail

Pre-requisites

Candidates must be able to demonstrate existing knowledge levels through having at least 5 years’ experience in the process, by passing the BMT2 end of course assessment, having achieved an NVQ Level 2 or having completed our pre-course questionnaire and achieved a score of over 70%.

Aim of the course

To provide delegates with an in-depth knowledge of the extrusion blow moulding process in order to competently and safely set up machines to achieve specified product quality levels and output rates.

Who should attend:

Specifically designed to address the needs of people requiring high-level skills in configuring and optimising the extrusion blow moulding manufacturing process. In particular:

  • Setters
  • Process Engineers
  • Technicians and Multi-Skilled Engineers

Objectives of the course:

On completion of the course the delegates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of current safety legislation for the extrusion blow moulding process and the use of safe working practices
  • Describe the construction and operation on an extrusion blow moulding machine, stating the function of component parts and process parameters
  • Demonstrate an understanding of die construction and design types
  • Describe the structure and properties of plastics materials and their interactions with the machine
  • Identify relevant control and quality monitoring equipment and describe its usage
  • Conduct a mould changeover procedure in a safe and economic manner
  • Set up and run an extrusion blow moulding machine from a zero base situation
  • Undertake machine condition setting in a logical and systematic manner
  • Establish parison programming conditions to produce a new article
  • Recognise common product faults and introduce appropriate rectification adjustments
  • Recognise relationships between the profile range, basic weight and positional points on a parison programmer
  • Simulate a full product trial to maximise product quality and output rates
  • Shut-down an extrusion blow moulding machine in a safe and efficient manner
  • Understand the commercial aspects of the process including material yield, cost of cycle time and over weight products

Individual candidate knowledge levels are assessed at the end of the training programme and a management report is provided to help identify further training requirements or career progression possibilities. This is a PTL assessment of knowledge for the blow moulding process but candidates can then progress towards achievement of their City & Guilds award by successfully completing further knowledge and practical assessments.

Duration:

5 days.Monday - Thursday (9.00am – 4.30pm) and Friday (9.00am - 4.00pm)

Qualification:

Polymer Processing Certificate Part 3
Material covered has been aligned to the content of an NVQ at Level 3 and can be used as underpinning knowledge towards achieving the award, if so desired.
