Mechanical to Electrical Basic Print E-mail

Aims:

This programme is designed for people who have no previous electrical knowledge and will enable them to perform certain electrical tasks competently and safely.

Content:

  • Health and safety relevant to electrical systems and tasks
  • Relevant parts of BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations and Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Emergency isolation
  • Methods of protection including fuses, circuit breakers and RCD’s
  • Cables/systems: termination of single core and sheathed cables
  • Connection to BS EN60309-2 and BS1363 plugs
  • Circuits: connect a selection of final circuits (lighting and power)
  • Supplies; single and three phase supplies up to 400 V
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Use of instruments to include continuity and insulation testing
  • Theory to support the practical activities listed above

Assessment:

Practical competence-based assessments and a multi–choice question paper to test knowledge and understanding.

Certification:

Following satisfactory completion of the programme, a City & Guilds 2572/01 certificate will be issued.

Duration:

5 days (08.30 – 15.30 hours each day)

NB: Delegates are encouraged to use their own electrical instruments providing they comply with IEC1010 or EN61010 and HSE GS38
