First Line Management (ILM Level 3) Print E-mail

In any organisation there is a point at which the direction and planning for what needs doing has to be translated into action and delivery. The First Line Manager/Supervisor is vital to this process as he/she leads and manages the operations of the organisation.

Do your First Line Managers:

Have a clear understanding of their role and responsibilities?
Ensure their people know what is expected of them?
Enthuse and inspire their team
Give feedback on how people are doing against expectations?
Help people improve their performance?
Solve problems, take decisions and have the confidence to use their own initiative?

The 5 day Introductory Certificate in First Line Management will give both newly appointed FLM’s and those with more experience the opportunity to spend time developing the skills that will ensure effective performance at this vital level in any organisation.

Course Content:

  • Leadership
  • Managing performance
  • Health & Safety Law and Pratice
  • The Management
  • Problem solving skills
  • Using information for decisions
  • Motivation
  • Building the Team
  • Delegation
  • Planning change

During the workshop each individual will also have a personal tutorial to ensure their learning needs are being met and they are achieving their personal course objectives.

Assessment:

To be awarded the Certificate participants will need to complete a review of the learning in four of the segments covered. This will be done during the workshop and assessed by the tutors.

Participants will also have to complete a work-based project, preferably chosen with their line manager that is going to make a significant performance improvement in the organisation. A carefully chosen project could give a return that makes the training self-financing!

The project will be submitted as a written report of not less than 1000 words. It will then be assessed by the course tutors and externally verified by ILM and provided the minimum marks are achieved, the Introductory Certificate will be awarded.

Course Style:

The emphasis throughout the course will be on learning from experience. Participants will consider and share past experiences, have new learning experiences in the workshop and plan for future learning in their workplace.

The workshop will therefore be active and participative. The tutors will help people learn and not teach them. It will be an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Benefits:

The course develops First Line Managers who:

  • Appreciate the importance of their role and their key position in the success of the organisation
